Bee Balm

(wild bergamot)

latin name: Monarda fistulosa

Bee balm, also known as wild bergamot or monarda, is in the mint family (Lamiaceae). It grows widespread and abundant as a native plant in much of North America. The variety of bee balm we grow has a spicy flavor and aroma; similar to oregano. Monarda was well known by many different Native American tribes who all used it for similar conditions including fevers, coughs, congestion, infection, insect and venomous bites. It is anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and anti-microbial.
